Award Ceremony 22 March 2018 - 11 noon Fondazione Riccardo Catella Via G. De Castillia 28, Milan

Jiehao Su, a young Chinese photographer who lives in the United States, is the winner of the second edition of the Gabriele Basilico Prize in Architecture and Landscape Photography.

Dedicated to the memory of the internationally renowned architecture and landscape photographer, the Prize aims to become an important point of reference for the research and experimentation of visual languages amongst the new generations, with whom Basilico always cultivated open and constructive dialogue.
The jury, after careful analysis of the works presented by the 36 artists under 35, selected six finalists, among whom the winner Jiehao Su with the following motivation:

“The work that Jiehao Su has dedicated to the Chinese landscape (Borderlands, 2012-2015) is a delicate and intimate exploration of the lands, people, animals, and details of the environment directly tied to his own personal history. This is the basis on which Jiehao Su intends to approach his new project, devoted to the city of Beijing, in an exploration of past and future, reality and imagination.”

The work Jiehao Su dedicated to Chinese landscape (Borderlands, 2012-2015) represents an in-depth study on territories, people, animals, details, all elements deeply rooted in the photographer’s personal history. Su proposes a spontaneous and harmonious tale, made of delicate and sensitive images, which reflects his search for a sense of belonging and identity. This is the understanding upon which Jiehnao Su’s work is based: a new project dedicated to Beijing, marked by a tension between fiction and reality, present experience and memory .

UniFor is proud of its role as technical sponsor of the prize in the great photographer’s memory.
