For the new headquarters of the prestigious international law firm Milbank, in the ultra-modern “55 Hudson Yards” skyscraper in Manhattan, UniFor provided both standard and bespoke products designed by LSM, the the award-winning architectural firm behind the interior of the new offices for over 700 professionals including partners, associates and staff.
The new HQ of Milbank was a great example of effective synergy between the architecture firm, the contractor, and all the suppliers involved. This collaboration transformed ten floors of the building, 27,000 square meters in total, creating a world-class experience for lawyers, staff and clients. The interiors display a clean, refined, and functional environment, which helps to create a location quite different from the stereotypical law firm; extensive use of materials such as mirrors and steel reflect the breathtaking views of Manhattan and the Hudson River, maximizing natural light in each of the offices.
The personalization of the space was key for Milbank, both in relation to the building itself, where LSM implemented several unique design features, and the individual offices, 391 in total. The private offices of all partners and associates are, in fact, all customized according to the individual lawyer’s needs. They are all equipped with height-adjustable desks, wall-mounted cupboards, and have ample work surface space. Great attention was also paid to ensure that the acoustics were appropriate, and that employees were able to work efficiently. The partitions used between the spaces are part of the RP family and are available in double-glazed and single-glazed versions. They were used across all 10 floors from the 30th to the 39th, covering a total of 3,300 square meters. Moreover, all the metal works, which cover the walls and columns were provided by UniFor to LSM’s design. Large meeting tables, reception desks and all of the cupboards have been reinterpreted by UniFor series furniture to meet LSM’s specific project requirements.
The aim of the project was to create a working environment that enhanced staff well-being, collaboration, and a sense of connection and commitment to the city of New York itself. Milbank LLP was named a finalist for “Coolest Amenities” by Crain’s New York Business, as well as being named a finalist for Project of the Year at the 2019 Corenet Corporate Real Estate Awards for Excellence. The entire 55 Hudson Yards building also earned the landmark LEED Gold certification.
