Loro Piana Headquarters, Milan

UniFor translates Vincent Van Duysen Architecs interior project for Loro Piana into a sophisticated custom made line of furnitures.

The location of Loro Piana's Headquarters in Milan
A historic building used since the second half of the 19th Century for trading and storing rolls of silk, the “Cortile della Seta” (Silk Courtyard) was rebuilt and extended by Luigi Caccia Dominioni after being bombarded during WWII. In 2021, the building underwent another refurbishment at the hands of Studio Asti Associati, who stroke the perfect balance between innovation, pre-existing settings and the palazzo’s historic soul.

Headquarters interior design: the details
The project was entrusted to Vincent Van Duysen Architects who designed a sophisticated setting for Loro Piana, a place capable of becoming an emblem of the brand’s typical sleek simplicity and elegance and, at the same time, of bringing out the aesthetics of historic Milanese palazzos.
This imaginative picture is also referred to the design of the internal courtyard, capable of bringing to mind the impressive Milanese entrances and recalling the relationship between nature and construction typically found in courtyard buildings.
The pursuit of balance between the volumes and compositional layout distinguishes the interiors and the study of the layout, while the finishes and materials recall the colours of the fabrics typically found in Loro Piana collections. In fact, the Vincent Van Duysen Architects practice was in charge of both designing the space and the furniture, devised to achieve a close synergy with the building while reflecting the brand’s philosophy and heritage.

UniFor's contribution
By interpreting the customer’s desires and the atmospheres conceived by Vincent Van Duysen and turning them into bespoke products devised specifically for the Loro Piana premises, UniFor was in charge of almost all the furniture.
The simple and stylish offices are designed to encourage people to interact, incentivising and valuing a return to using physical spaces, to liaising and pursuing interpersonal skills. The operational and executive workstations, designed by Vincent Van Duysen, convey the values of the brand thanks to the impeccable choice of materials, colours and the clean-cut, elegant, sleek and sustainable design.
The corrugated equipped wall panels, an architectural feature introduced by Studio VVDA for the store project in the New York Meatpacking District, are the restyling of the typical wood panelling found in Loro Piana stores. This finish brings together the concept of classic (Doric columns) and grating, offered here in fabric instead of stone. A notable detail concerns the flooring, made entirely with recycled fishing nets, which recalls the bond between Loro Piana and the sailing world while at the same time reiterating the need for a sustainable approach to the design of the premises.
When creating the furniture for the Loro Piana premises, UniFor succeeded in accommodating the needs and desires of the customer with bespoke intervention, in order to fit every single piece with the overall mood of the setting and the brand’s distinctive identity. One example are the RP partitions, presented here with bush-hammered glazing oozing a warm, elegant and nostalgic feel, typically found in Milan’s historical buildings.
With its unwavering commitment to design, UniFor has confirmed its ability to meet all design needs, offering flexible and bespoke solutions, capable of bringing to mind specific atmospheres and moods.
